Are you going to be traveling this spring? If so, we have some tips to share with you! Traveling during the spring is always a fun adventure and usually has the pictures to prove it. If you are interested in keeping your smile healthy and white during your vacation, then check out this list of information we have for you.

Our dentist, Dr. Gilbert Fernandez, is happy to help you with your oral health care needs. That is why our team in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is happy to share some ideas on what to bring as you travel this season.

Here are some tips on what to bring on your vacation to keep your smile white and beautiful:
– Dental floss: To reach areas that your brush cannot, you will need to bring dental floss.
– Chewing gum: Chewing gum, in particular, sugarless chewing gum, can help produce additional saliva and keep your mouth clean.
– Tongue scraper: Your tongue can often be in an area where bacteria can collect. To keep your risk of halitosis at a minimum, always use a tongue scraper to scrape off bacteria on it.
– Toothpaste: A tube of nonabrasive toothpaste can be brought along to help with your brushing needs.
– Toothbrush: Your toothbrush is helpful for keeping your mouth clean. Be sure to bring a travel case so you can store it properly.
– Mouthwash: Mouthwash can help neutralize acids in your mouth and wash away bacteria responsible for bad breath.

If you need additional help with your oral health, or if you would like a dental cleaning before your trip, please call us today at 505-898-8063 to make an appointment. At the dental practice of Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc. our team is happy to spring into action to assist you.

To continue receiving the necessary oral health care to ensure your smile can thrive for many decades to come, you will need to be aware of all potential risk factors and scenarios that may arise. If you are female, be aware that while you’re pregnant, you will suffer from significant oral health risks if you’re not careful. Thus, if you find yourself pregnant, make sure you let your dentist know. Several visits to your dentist will be needed to ensure that no damage is occurring to your teeth and gums. They can also determine if you are at an increased risk for other forms of injuries.

When you are pregnant, you will be at an increased risk of gum disease. Because of this, you will need to implement effective oral hygiene care beyond that which you have been using in the past. This includes always making sure that you brush your teeth twice daily, floss once per day and continue to practice effective oral health care treatments on a daily basis as best of your ability. Your diet will also need to change if you haven’t changed it already. This includes avoiding sugar and eating well-balanced, nutritious meals.

When you are pregnant, it is important to let your dentist know about your current condition, as well as any prenatal vitamins and medications you are currently using. Due to the heightened risks of poor oral health when you are pregnant, speak with your dentist about any treatment methods you can use to help keep your smile safe. Poor oral hygiene has been linked to health risks such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia and premature delivery. Thus, continue to care for your smile as your baby grows.

For more information concerning your oral health while pregnant or to schedule an appointment with Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and the rest of our team, please contact us at our dentist office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by calling 505-898-8063. Our office thanks you for stopping by!

Do you know what the recommended time in between visits to your dentist should be? For optimal oral health, you need to see your dentist every 6 months–or twice a year. Yet, most people only see the dentist once a year or less. There may be some contributing factors that these numbers reflect, such as, lack of dental insurance or anxiety about dentists in general. The sad truth of the matter is that without regular dental care you are compromising your smile.

Rather than focusing on why you don’t see the dentist as often as you should, here are two very good reasons why you should think about getting to the dentist more frequently:

Professional cleaning – No amount of brushing and flossing will make up for regular professional cleanings done by the dentist or the dental hygienist. They have special tools to remove difficult tartar and plaque that is hiding in the tight spaces of your teeth. Plus, you will typically get a fluoride treatment every time you go to strengthen your smile.

Catching Problems Early – You cannot see the whole picture of your oral health like a dentist can. Regular examinations, evaluations, and X-rays may keep you from having to deal with a bigger problem in the future, saving time, expense, and misery. Consistent dental visits can screen everything from cavities and gum disease to cancer. You may end up regretting not making the time if something serious crops up that could’ve been easily handled earlier.

If it’s been longer than 6 months since you’ve seen the dentist, call Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and our team at Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc.. You can make an appointment at: 505-898-8063, or come by our office in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Many people assume that as long as they brush and floss their teeth every day, they have no need for mouthwash. The truth is that, while mouthwash can’t replace any of these habits, it can further improve your dental health and leave your breath fresh and your smile clean. We are eager to help you incorporate mouthwash into your oral care routine to improve your dental health.

Your options for mouthwash products are numerous, and choosing the right mouthwash can be hard, especially if you aren’t sure which is best for your smile. At Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc., we would be happy to help you choose a product based on the properties your oral health needs. For example, you can find cosmetic mouthwash products that freshen your breath and whiten your teeth, and therapeutic mouthwashes that provide fluoride supplementation. Looking for the Seal of Acceptance from the American Dental Association can help you find safe and effective products that meet the ADA’s high standards and boost your oral health.

Mouthwash can offer the most benefits when used alongside daily brushing and flossing. You should never use mouthwash in place of these practices, as only floss can clean between your teeth and only brushing can scrub your tooth’s surface. The purpose of mouthwash is help to eliminate lingering bacteria and acid and leave your smile feeling fresh.

Contact us at 505-898-8063 today to ask Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and our friendly team any questions you have about mouthwash in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Our dentist, Dr. Gilbert Fernandez may be able to use a dental bridge to replace a tooth that has been damaged by decay or trauma. A bridge is typically crafted from dental grade porcelain and other durable materials that replicate the strength of natural tooth enamel.

As strong as your dental bridge is, there are still things that can potentially chip or fracture it. This could come from a blow to the mouth from an accident or fall. Even if the damage to your dental bridge doesn’t cause any immediate pain or discomfort, you should not put off a visit with the dentist and the staff at Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc.. The longer you delay your visit, the more likely you are to suffer significant complications!

In a case where the fractured area is limited to the dental bridge material and both anchoring crowns are undamaged, the dentist might be able to simply fit you for a new bridge. If one of the crowns or the tooth it covers has been damaged, the dentist might need to perform a root canal to make sure that the tooth is healthy enough to support a new dental bridge.

If you are in the Albuquerque, New Mexico, area and you have a chipped, fractured or otherwise compromised dental bridge, you should call 505-898-8063 to have it examined and treated at Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc..

Brushing effectively depends on brushing properly. You may think you’re brushing correctly, but the truth is that we often rush it and don’t fully clean all areas of our teeth. Even a small amount of surface left behind with plaque can give rise to dental erosion. To keep all areas of your teeth safe, you must take your time and gently clean our teeth correctly with our toothbrushes.

Are you aware of how to properly brush your teeth? If you’ve not already done so, it is important to make sure that you have selected a toothbrush that has soft bristles and can contour to all areas of your mouth. Not only should your toothbrush be durable, but it needs to be taken care of on a daily basis. By taking care of your toothbrush, you can lower your risk of contamination, and make sure your brush can continue to clean your mouth effectively.

Generally, you should brush for two minutes twice daily. Always brush your teeth at a 45-degree angle unless you’re brushing your front teeth, at which point you should turn your brush vertical. Take your time, as it is not a race. Make sure to clean all areas and sides of each and every tooth. Furthermore, make sure you clean off your tongue as they can harbor bacteria.

For additional assistance with dental damage restorations, Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and our team at Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc. are here to enhance your smile. If you would like to set up an appointment to come see us at our dentist office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, please call us at 505-898-8063 to speak with a member of our team.

If you have suffered extensive damage due to an oral accident or injury, it may be repaired with a comprehensive procedure in the form of a dental crown. Dental crowns can even be crafted in as little as a single day and be placed on top of existing teeth or implants to provide an improved look and added functionality. For additional benefits of dental crowns, see the following list:

– Dental crowns can be used to concealed previous restorations in the form of implants, bridges, or even root canals. They can also add an additional level of durability and support.

– Dental crowns are extremely durable and can often be placed for added protection for anywhere from 2 decades up to a lifetime of use.

– Dental crowns are most often used to support weak or broken teeth that have been damaged. They can even be used in situations where a tooth has shattered into bits.

– Dental crowns are extremely effective for use when no other treatment options are usable. In some situations, crowns can save a tooth from extraction.

– Dental fillings should always be placed in teeth that have cavities. However, in some situations, there may not be enough tooth remaining to hold a filling on its own. In situations like this, dental crowns can bind the tooth and filling together.

– Dental crowns are often used to repair irregular shapes, curvatures, or color.

The time is now to enhance your smile with dental crowns from Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and our team at our dentist office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc. wants your smile to thrive, so call us at 505-898-8063 to book an appointment.

If you have a missing tooth, then you should consider replacing it with a dental bridge. That is, if it’s the right treatment for you. Our dentist, Dr. Gilbert Fernandez, recommends restoration with a dental bridge often because it provides many benefits. To help you know more, our dental team is happy to list the many benefits here, which are:

-Dental bridges can restore the function of your mouth. Having a missing tooth can make eating, talking, smiling, and other everyday tasks difficult. With the help of a dental bridge, you can perform all of these tasks naturally once again.

-Dental bridges can boost your self-esteem by improving the appearance of your smile. This is because you’ll no longer have the big gap separating your teeth! This can help you feel confident while posing for pictures, visiting with family members and friends, and attending events.

-Dental bridges can give you natural-looking results because they are made for your specific smile. Your dentist will measure your teeth and will send that information to dental lab technicians. They will use that information to create a restoration that will fit perfectly in your mouth.

For more information and details about dental bridges in Albuquerque, New Mexico, please contact Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc. at 505-898-8063 and talk to a member of our dental team. The more you know, the better! We also encourage you to schedule an appointment to see if a dental bridge is right for you. We look forward to helping you!

Never be afraid to improve your health by establishing an effective cavity prevention treatment plan. The more you do to keep your teeth out of harm’s way from cavities, the better the chance your teeth and gums will have. Are you practicing cavity prevention?

If you have not already done so, it is important to create an effective cavity prevention plan and apply techniques to improve your smile. This includes brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing once a day as well. Always make sure you’re using non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Furthermore, you should use dental floss that will not tear or rip easily upon use.

Are you aware of the benefits of saliva? Saliva is a naturally occurring substance in your mouth that can help rinse away debris, neutralize acids, and guard against cavities and bad bacteria in your mouth. To help improve the amount of saliva in your mouth, consider using supplemental cleaning utensils such as chewing gum. However, these cleaning utensils should never be used as a substitute for brushing and flossing.

Cavity prevention often depends on making sure you’re eating a healthy diet that is free of snacking and other substances that can easily damage your teeth and gums. You should always limit snacking between meals as it can increase the time in which food can cause harmful bacteria or plaque buildup on your teeth and gums and cause dental damage. Furthermore, avoid sugars and starches that can be converted into harmful acids known for chewing through tooth enamel.

Your smile can shine on for many years to come thanks to cavity prevention treatments. If you require aid with cavity prevention treatments, you are welcome to book an appointment with Gilbert Fernandez, DDS, Inc. by calling 505-898-8063. Dr. Gilbert Fernandez and our entire team at our dentist office in Albuquerque, New Mexico, look forward to upgrading your smile with cavity prevention treatments.
