Why Regular Dentist Visits Are Important

Posted .

Do you know what the recommended time in between visits to your dentist should be? For optimal oral health, you need to see your dentist every 6 months–or twice a year. Yet, most people only see the dentist once a year or less. There may be some contributing factors that these numbers reflect, such as, lack of dental insurance or anxiety about dentists in general. The sad truth of the matter is that without regular dental care you are compromising your smile.

Rather than focusing on why you don’t see the dentist as often as you should, here are two very good reasons why you should think about getting to the dentist more frequently:

Professional cleaning – No amount of brushing and flossing will make up for regular professional cleanings done by the dentist or the dental hygienist. They have special tools to remove difficult tartar and plaque that is hiding in the tight spaces of your teeth. Plus, you will typically get a fluoride treatment every time you go to strengthen your smile.

Catching Problems Early – You cannot see the whole picture of your oral health like a dentist can. Regular examinations, evaluations, and X-rays may keep you from having to deal with a bigger problem in the future, saving time, expense, and misery. Consistent dental visits can screen everything from cavities and gum disease to cancer. You may end up regretting not making the time if something serious crops up that could’ve been easily handled earlier.
