It’s Time to Check for Cavities if You Have These Symptoms

Posted .

Cavities are some of the most common problems our patients bring to Dr. Gilbert Fernandez here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. While it’s sometimes simple to tell if you have a cavity or not, other times it’s more difficult. So let’s look at some symptoms of cavities and some of the things you can do to avoid developing them in the first place.

Aching Teeth

If you’ve got a tooth that’s been bugging you for a while – usually accompanied by a sharp pain or dull ache – then you’ll want to check with your dentist to see if the tooth has developed a cavity.

If it’s been some time since your last dental checkup, then it’s possible it the cavity formed lately and can be treated with a simple filling – as long as you come to our office quickly.

Teeth that Hurt When You Bite Down

If you have teeth that just hurt when you use them to bite or chew, that’s a different sign of a cavity. This is usually a sign of a cavity that’s smaller, just beginning to form. These types of cavities, while still important to get looked at and treated, aren’t as serious as the cavities that cause a constant toothache.
